Be With My Suffering And Love Myself
“Siddhartha and Jesus both realized that life is filled with suffering.
Sitting and looking deeply into your body, your consciousness, and your mental states is like being a mother hen covering her eggs. One day insight will be born like a baby chick.
If we do this (maintain awareness), we will see deeply into the nature of our suffering, and we will find a way out.”
Thich Nhat Hanh, “Living Buddha, Living Christ”, page 48-49.
I am about half-way through this book and appreciate all the similarities that these two figures have invited humanity to consider. I believe that the old brain creates differences while our new brain is with the AND of it all.
I grew up Christian and was introduced to some of the practices of Buddhism in my twenties. I so appreciate the story, language, and encouragement from both of these profound influences in my life. Learning about both has given me a greater appreciation for each and I am leaning into this knowing; beyond the intellect.
I find mindfulness meditation supports my intention to be with my suffering and love myself….if only for a moment.
