  • Let It Be

“Letting Go” vs. “Letting Be” via Joseph Goldstein, Waking Up App

“Letting Go” often implies doing something — releasing, detaching, or even pushing away thoughts, feelings, or sensations.  While it has value, it can subtly carry a tone of resistance or effort.

“Letting Be” as Joseph Goldstein teaches in the context of mindfulness invites a non-interfering presence.  It means allowing whatever is arising (pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral) to exist just as it is, without needing to fix it, change it or even name it.  “Letting be” does not demand that you get rid of anything, instead, you just make room for it.

I find mindfulness meditation supports my intention to let it be….if only for a moment.
