  • Notice and Choose LOVE

    The Weight of Measures

We carve the hours into rigid frames, each tick a tally, a whisper of blame. The clock, our master, with hands so stern, turns moments to prisons where lessons don’t learn.

Dollars we stack like bricks in a wall, a fortress of shame when it’s not enough at all. The gilded coins whisper, “You’re still behind,” yet they buy no peace for the restless mind.

Trophies gleam under artificial light, measuring worth by the height of the fight. But the pedestal quivers, the gold turns gray—accomplishments fade; shame finds its way.

And yet, in the wreckage of our measured pride, a whisper grows louder, calling inside: “Love is the new money, the timeless thread, binding the living, the forgotten, the dead.”

No clock can chain it, no wallet hold, no trophy display its weight in gold. For love is the currency without decline, a wealth eternal, a measure divine.

So let shame dissolve in the light of this truth, that we are enough in the dawn of our youth. No measure defines us; no standard can bind, when love, the new money, reclaims the mind.

I feel the measurement of time, money and accomplishment.  I do want to embrace that “Love is the New Money” as a favorite singer preaches.  Ultimately, I do believe I have lived a life based on LOVE versus measurement, and these shackles still takes up quite of bit of space for me DAILY.

So, as I intentionally sit and observe, I hear this roar of measurement.  It is not overt, more along the lines of “planning mind” trains of thought which are rooted in a cultural belief that measurement is king.  It is LOUD for me yet I’ve been swimming in this water for so long, it’s hard for me to hear.

I find mindfulness meditation supports my intention to notice and choose LOVE….if only for a moment.
