Notice With Peace Within
“The reason we suffer is that we seek peace elsewhere — and do not experience that we are peace incarnate itself.”
From the moment we enter the world, we are conditioned to focus outward. We learn to seek approval, pursue accomplishments, and accumulate possessions. Society subtly tells us that true happiness resides in a bigger house, a better career, or the validation of others. These messages grow louder as we age, often overshadowing the quieter, deeper truths within.
The challenge with looking for peace outside ourselves is that the world is in constant flux, like a river that’s never the same twice. You may experience brief flashes of joy — landing a promotion, starting a new relationship, or achieving a long-held goal — but these moments are temporary. What happens when work becomes stressful, a relationship faces challenges, or the thrill of success fades? If our sense of peace depends on external factors, it becomes as unstable as a house built on shifting sands.
“We fail to realize that we are peace itself.” This is more than just a poetic notion; it’s an invitation to rediscover what has been lost. Peace isn’t something we must find outside ourselves; it is something we already carry within. In truth, peace isn’t merely within us — it is us. Based on words from Cecilio Blanco Ledesma.
I find mindfulness meditation supports my intention to notice with peace within….if only for a moment.
