Notice Shame and See It For What It Is
“I kind of have stopped taking it personally (shame).”
“Claiming your emotions or perceptions as yours is a misappropriation of public property.”
“What’s It’s Like To Do A Year Long Silent Meditation Retreat – By Yourself” with Cara Lai via
Ten Percent Happier Podcast @ 42:05-45:00 minutes
While listening to this podcast, I am reminded of a thought refuge I have, “This isn’t about ME”. John Bradshaw indicated that 95% of our shame is given to us yet we own it all. I do believe this is the cross that is given to us, we carry its weight and it is a journey to recognize it and let it go. I must admit, this took me some time to “see shame” in my life. Looking back, it showed up so clearly in my meditation practice, and I did not see this emotional visitor as I had lived with it for so long. In listening to Cara, I hear her emotions and perceptions, the shame she carried that was not hers.
I find mindfulness meditation supports my intention to notice shame and see it for what it is…if only for a moment.
