  • Being With Yourself

“Addiction is any pattern of behavior whereby you can not stand to be with yourself and certain of the more uncomfortable thoughts and more importantly emotions that come from being on your own.  Therefore, you can be addicted to almost anything so long as it keeps you away from yourself.”

Alain de Botton, Creator of The School of Life,

“Why You Will Marry the Wrong Person”, @ 3:31-6:00 minutes

I love the School of Life channel, tons of informing videos.  The “Why You Will Marry the Wrong Person” is a great talk, important.  I find that I have learned the most in my life in relationship to my wife, children and dog.  All these “opportunities of learning” have been more on the unpleasant side, so part of me finds it difficult to “pay attention” and be curious in the moment.  I have adopted the expression “activation is education” to welcome this path of discovery amongst my reactive resistance.  This premise is a life long practice.

I also have noticed these parts show up during meditation.  My thoughts, feelings, sensations and patterns all show up in slow motion (at times).  If I give myself an opportunity to “just sit” and notice, allow, perhaps a brief observe/describe a settling occurs.

I find mindfulness meditation supports my intention to be with myself…if only for a moment.
