Humble and Open

“…where the algorithms reward certainty, outrage and fear-mongering.  In fact, the best way to come to understand your life, universe, the way the world is working, is to have some intellectual humility, to have some opened mindedness.”

Dan Harris, Rich Roll podcast, Get 10% Happier Every Year, April 21, ’25 @ ~44:20

Appreciated this podcast, Rich Roll’s work, and shows how computer algorithms are a lot like the human brain. They both focus on things like fear, anger, and being certain, because those things get attention, kept us alive/survive. Our brains are wired to look for danger and get stuck in patterns of unpleasantness, not so useful.

Mindfulness helps us do something different.  It teaches us to slow down, notice what’s happening inside us, and choose where to put our attention.  Instead of getting stuck in fear or outrage, we can focus on what’s useful, kind and more towards a greater truth/knowing.

Catching this pattern is why we gather on Mondays and Thursday, as it’s practice. Like any self-realization activity, it’s supportive to have a time, place and partner(s). I am grateful for each gathering!

I find mindfulness meditation supports my intention to humble and open ....if only for a moment.
