Transformed From Me to We

I cannot think of any spiritual practice which will transform our lives into love and into God more than simply trying to live in the naked now, in the sacrament of the present moment.

Richard Rohr

Richard Rohr’s image of “Practicing the Presence at a Stoplight” rings true for me.  I have my own spot for this practice at College and Nottingham Court, across from Park Tudor.  That light always seems to reveal my EGO at work.  I catch myself “racing” to get to the next thing, missing so much Presence right in front of me.

Brené Brown speaks of seeing “the extraordinary in the ordinary,” and I believe this is one of the doorways into Presence.  When I pause, even briefly, to notice what my senses bring me, the ordinary becomes extraordinary.  The hum of a car, the light through a tree, colors, the feel of the steering wheel.  Typically, this leads to a practice of gratitude for all that is present, and each small detail is a reminder that I am part of something much larger.  I am a part, not THE part.  Perhaps this is what Rohr calls the Naked Now which is a simple, sacred awareness of what is here.

I find mindfulness meditation supports my intention to be transformed from ME to WE....if only for a moment.
