Be Bored
“Start getting better at periods that are 15 minutes and longer of boredom and watch your life change.”
Arthur Brooks, You Need to Be Bored. Here’s Why. Harvard Business Review
Boredom has nearly vanished from our lives. At the first pause, we reach for our phones or fill the silence with noise. As Arthur Brooks reminds us, boredom is not the enemy, it’s something we need. (Bonus: Rob Bell’s “Importance of Boredom” podcast.)
When we allow stillness, it often leading us into deeper questions: What and why do I think about X so often? How am I feeling? Where do I carry life’s unprocessed emotions in the body? Who am I and what am I doing here? 😊
Though uncomfortable, these questions open the door to purpose and joy. Mindfulness invites us to sit with these visitors. In rediscovering boredom, we may rediscover life.
I find mindfulness meditation supports my intention to be bored.
