Stay Present With What's Before Me

“Recognize what is before your eyes, and the mysteries will be revealed to you.”

— attributed to Jesus in the Gospel of Thomas, Saying 5

Why Religion?  Elaine Pagels, page 32 & 178

During my travels, I read Why Religion? by Elaine Pagels and found many parts quite interesting.  One quote, attributed to Jesus in the Gospel of Thomas, appeared twice in the book, and only after reviewing my highlights, did I notice that I had marked it both times.  Hum….

Rather than looking elsewhere for insight, peace, or meaning, I am invited to begin right here, with what is already present. The ordinary moment, the breath, the body, the person in front of me, the feeling I may be avoiding, may hold more wisdom than I realize.  I wonder if I learn to see clearly what is before me, life itself begins to reveal its deeper mystery.

I find mindfulness supports my intention to stay present with what’s before me….if only for a moment.
